The Cause
Barkitecture is a partnership of Marion Cultural Alliance, Inc. and Humane Society of Marion County. MCA and the Humane Society have joined forces to bring awareness to the needs of homeless animals and to demonstrate the awesome power of the arts to change lives. Together we — you, the Humane Society and MCA — can help build a better community for people and pets.

The Project, an Overview
Barkitecture, a 20-month project showcasing the works of local dogsigners, arfisans and catstruction teams in the creation of scaled animal shelters, is designed to demonstrate the incredible power of the arts to change life for the better for homeless animals.

The Barkitecture homes will be on display through January, when they be returned to the kennel to be readied for charity auction. Proceeds from the auction will benefit the Humane Society of Marion County.

Working Together
At MCA and HSMC, we do it for the arts, the animals, and for the community. We know our sponsors share our passions and we wish to extend a warm-nosed thank you to the great sponsors who are bringing us along. For information on how you can support art and animals through Barkitecture call (352) 369-1500.

Barkitecture Auction Night Gala

Custom Window Systems in Ocala was transformed into an auction house Saturday, Feb. 2, 2008 when patrons of the Humane Society of Marion County and the Marion Cultural Alliance gathered to support the arts and those projects benefitting homeless pets. A sumptuous buffet, libations, soft jazz and a highly competitive bidding spirit combined for a fun and exciting evening. Mayor of Dogtown, Fla. Mike Amsden, welcomed the crowd. Lois Johnson, chairman of the gala evening recognized Joan Pletcher as evening sponsor and The Brick City Cabaret Company sang "How Much Is That Doggie In The Window" emphasizing the upbeat mood. Auctioneer Jim Payton began his sale jargon and the evening was off and running interspersed with the auctioning of a special diamond pendant designed by Elaine Lemieux and a historic print donated by George Albright, in addition to other items.
